In 2003 Kevin Vallely was named one of Canada's leading adventurers by the Globe and Mail. His adventuring resume is stacked with compelling expeditions to all parts of the world including skiing Alaskas 1,860-kilometre Iditarod Trail; scampering over Vancouver Islands West Coast Trail in record time (10 hours, 13 minutes); attempting to bike and climb the island of Javas 13 -10,000-foot volcanoes (a trip cut short when post-9/11 Indonesia became too dangerous); competing on the only Canadian team to finish the last and most difficult Eco-Challenge adventure race held in Fiji in 2002; retracing a 2,000-kilometre Klondike-era ice-bike route through the dead of an Alaskan winter, and most recently, with teammates Ray Zahab and Richard Weber, breaking the world record for the fastest unsupported trek to the South Pole. What makes Kevin a little different than your typical adventurer, and in many ways more accessible to a wider audience, is the fact that hes a happily married father of two and a successful residential architect working in North Vancouver. He graduated from McGill University in 1988 winning the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada Medal for top graduating student and shortly after was awarded a prized Commonwealth Scholarship for post-graduate work at Cambridge University in England. His capacity to live life to the fullest while still being a regular guy with real-life responsibilities conveys a message that anything is possible if one puts their mind to it. He has proven strengths in goal setting, motivation and risk assessment and can translate these successfully to an audience through his presentations. Kevin is a highly sought-after motivational and inspirational speaker whos been sharing his adventures with audiences for nearly a decade now, inspiring children and adults alike to dream large, set goals and achieve what they never thought possible. "Kevin Vallely offered a series of high-end presentations for the Vancouver Intl Mountain Film Festival: Adventures Around the World as part of the VIMFF Fall Speaker Series in November 2008; a similar presentation for the North Vancouver elementary and secondary school students within the framework of the 12th Annual VIMFF on February 26; and the Polar Express presentation from Kevin's resent record setting traverse, offered at VIMFF at the Opening Evening on February 20. Apart from being a par-excellence adventurer in his own right and a world class outdoor athlete, Kevin's presentations are truly inspirational, engaging and gripping. Kevin uses state-of-the-art software with high resolution images, film clips, music and spoken word interwoven in his thrilling presentations. His style is unique, upbeat and yet humble and unassuming. Kevin touches the inner adventurer in everybody and makes the audience want to go out and experience the real adventures of this world. Kevin is also our "back yard" hero from North Vancouver, proving that a regular person with a job and a family can still accomplish amazing things without being backed by hefty sponsorship dollars and media. Kevin is a true talent with a very present, open and immediate personality, and his genius continues to change the lives of many." Alan Formanek -Director of Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival
